After the Norwegian expedition of 1940 it was apparent how unprepared we were for Arctic warfare. Procurement of appropriate equipment began in 1940 and training in '41 . This type of equipment would have been carried during the failed operation "Freshman" to Norway. Artic equipment saw limited use in Northern Italy during the winter if '43 - '44. The need to invade Norway and the full use of such equipment never came about due to the collapse of Germany in May '45.
